Does Milk Cause Cellulite?

If you want to maintain an attractive appearance, and are interested in reading about women’s health issues, you will almost certainly already know a great deal about cellulite.

True, most medical doctors do not recognize the existence of the cellulite skin problem as being distinct from other forms of obesity, but alternative medicine and health experts have helped bring this term into popular use.

Today when patches of wrinkled, fatty skin appear on the lower limbs of the body, cellulite is the name most frequently applied to the complaint.

The disagreement over what name to apply to this condition is also reflected in differences of opinion on its diagnosis and suggested treatments. On the one hand the medical profession believes that exercise and good diet are the best methods for attacking cellulite since they view it as primarily a weight problem, but alternative medicine links cellulite to a build up of body toxins and therefore the treatment must involve a detoxification process.

Thus while there is a consensus that diet is important for fighting cellulite, what counts as a beneficial or harmful food is disputed, and a good case in point is the question of does milk cause cellulite?

Traditionally milk has been regarded as one of the healthiest drinks we can have, and mothers all round the world still encourage their children to drink their milk. However, when it comes to cellulite milk and dairy products may not be the best choice. There is evidence of a link between hormonal changes and the appearance and spread of cellulite, for example, during the menopause period.

In the Western World most of the milk sold is produced by commercially farmed cows that are fed on hormone rich foods to encourage higher mile yields. There are strong suspicions of a link between the hormones absorbed in the body through drinking milk and cellulite. There are even studies that have detected long-term reductions in cellulite for women who cut diary foods out of their diet.

If you are concerned about the affect of milk drinking on the skin, and in particular feel that the answer to does milk cause cellulite is a clear yes, there are alternative milk sources that could satisfy some of your diary product needs. Goat’s milk usually lacks the hormones found in cow’s milk and it is widely recognized as a healthier alternative. And non-dairy substitutes like rice milk and almond milk are alos pleasant and healthy. You should probably steer clear of soy milk as it has its' own controversies.

It should not take much additional effort to find ways of continuing to include milk in your diet without having to worry over damage to your skin.
